On October 17, 2016, Fashion Futurum Startup Show was held as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia (MBFWR).

“Fashion technologies are crucial and promising. It is for the first time that Fashion Week offered a new format which helps to draw the attention of the professional community to innovative ideas”, said Alexander Shumsky, MBFWR President.

Experts in education, fashion industry and venture investments, who were invited to give startup evaluation, also delivered lectures at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.

Among those invited was Alexey Borovkov, SPbPU Vice-Rector, SPbPU Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (IAMT) scientific director, head of SPbPU Computer-Aided Engineering Centre of Excellence (CompMechLab®) and co-head of TechNet NTI working team. In his speech he showed how advanced technologies are already used in the fashion industry.

In his lecture Alexey Borovkov gave a brief overview of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) and objectives of the TechNet group which he heads and which is based on the understanding that advanced technologies are the ones that are developing new markets. The progress of the economy of the future is primarily related with multidisciplinary and cross-industry technologies which are already demanded by many industries and are able to provide competitive advantages on the markets of the future, including the fashion market.

Professor Borovkov mentioned as an example the ways key NTI technologies are already used in the production of “smart” clothes and footwear, jewellery, watches, accessories and virtual fitting rooms.
