On May 31, 2016, Computer-Aided Engineering Centre of Excellence (CompMechLab®) of SPbPU was visited by Advisor on Science and Technology of the Republic of India Embassy in Moscow Abhishek Vaish. Dr. Vaish was demonstrated Centre's activities and some key projects implemented for global industrial leaders.
Computer-Aided Engineering Centre of Excellence Lead Engineer Alexey Tarasov gave a brief reference to the history of the Centre established on the basis of educational, research and innovation laboratory “Computation Mechanics” of SPbPU created by Prof., Dr. Alexey I. Borovkov in 1987.
Today CompMechLab® team develops original technologies, structures, equipment, and products based on CAD/CAE/HPC/CAO advanced technologies, as well as additive technologies.
Works performed by Engineering Centre specialists cover almost all hi-tech industrial spheres. CompMechLab® team has been carrying out project for leading international concerns, including General Electric, General Motors, Boeing, Airbus, Schlumberger, BMW, Daimler, Audi, LG Electronics etc., for over 20 years already.
А. Tarasov told Mr. Vaish about the Digital Factory concept implemented at the Engineering Centre; this concept includes three knowledge-intensive business processes: virtual product development, virtual assessment and analysis, virtual production.
А. Tarasov pointed out that all CompMechLab® engineers, co-contractors, and customers work within one integrated environment, namely, SPDM-system CML-Bench™ developed in the Engineering Centre of Excellence.
Dr. Vaish learnt about long-term efficient cooperation between CompMechLab® and the largest international Engineering Centres like EDAG (about 8 000 emplyees), Semcon, etc. For instance, CompMechLab® cooperates with EDAG within the framework of many contracts based on BMW orders.
The information on CompMechLab® participation in the project devoted to the development of the Russian luxury vehicle (“Motorcade” project), ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) project, МС-21 project, development of the first Russian high-speed catamaran made of carbon-fiber composite material, etc. was provided.
Dr.Vaish pointed out the high level and complexity of the tasks. He spoke about the rage of prospective fields for SPbPU Computer-Aided Engineering Centre of Excellence efficient cooperation with Indian companies and universities. In particular, he told about the "smart citiy" project supported by the Indian government.
Vaish noted, "India needs developments and scientific solutions, including those designed for "smart cities".
Dr.Vaish and CompMechLab® representatives discussed opportunities for business contacts development within the framework of INNOPROM-2016 (India is the event's partner country in 2016) where employees from Computer-Aided Engineering Centre of Excellence / IAMT of SPbPU and CompMechLab® Group will participate.
