The International Industrial Trade Fair INNOPROM-2015: Successful participation of Engineering Center (CompMechLab®) of SPbPU staff in the exhibition of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and in business events
Engineers from the Engineering Center “Center of Computer-Aided Engineering” (CompMechLab®) of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University participated in the Industrial Trade Fair INNOPROM-2015 that took place in Yekaterinburg from 7 to 11 July. CompMechLab® was performed at the exhibition of the Ministry of Industry and Trade under the auspices of newy-established SPbPU Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (IAMT) following the special invitation together with other high technology companies: SPbPU Institute of Laser and Welding Technologies (ILWT), Laser Technology Centre (under the auspices of SPbPU IAMT), NPO SATURN, STANKOPROM JSC, etc.

IAMT is a distributed foresight-structure that includes the following:
- leading departments of SPbPU involving world-class specialists who often implement hi-tech projects ordered by leading companies;
- development institutes, external R&D and analytical centres, companies linked with hi-technology engineering and consulting.
SPbPU Center of Computer-Aided Engineering introduced the latest solutions in additive production, optimization technologies, and bionic design at INNOPROM-2015.
In particular, 2 models of 3D printers developed by CompMechLab® were demonstrated:
- "Engineer V2" extrusion FDM 3D printer
- BRAVO SLA photopolymer 3D printer providing printing thickness of 0.013 to 0.100 mm.
CompMechLab® employees prepared an analytical survey "Bionic Design" for INNOPROM-2015; that is the first Russian publication devoted to the key trend of today's technological development, namely, to bionic principles application during design of competitive next generation products / goods.
CML Safety Suit™ was also demonstrated; that is the first and the only virtual test site in Russia which includes digital models of anthropomorphic dummies, barriers and impactors as well as a software package used to analyze the results and facilitate predictive modelling of crashes and optimize motor vehicle design to ensure human safety. Virtual models of anthropomorphic dummies integrated into CML Safety Suit™ make it possible to analyze the response of a human body to a crash and evaluate the severity of injuries.
Meetings and business talks were taking place at the IAMT mount during three days of exhibition, involving Prof. Alexey Borovkov, the Engineering Center “Center of Computer-Aided Engineering” Chief Executive Officer and the Vice-Rector for Advanced Projects.
IAMT mount was visited by the People's Republic of China delegation headed by Mr. Wang Yang, the Vice Premiers of China in Premier Li Keqiang's Government.
Mr. Wang Yang was impressed by CompMechLab® competences and proposed the SPbPU Engineering Center to cooperate with Chinese companies in order to develop "best-in-class" products.
Minister of Industry of Cuba, Mr. Salvador Pardo Cruz, also paid attention to the IAMT mount. He stated that Cuba enterprises are interested in advanced industrial technologies and are ready to start their cooperation with SPbPU. Alexey Borovkov invited high-profile guests to visit SPbPU in order to determine specific steps for mutually advantageous cooperation.
Prof. Alexey Borovkov also held negotiations with Mr. Victor Bespalov, Vice-President of Siemens PLM Software in Russia and CIS. Parties discussed situation on the Russian software market. as well as prospects for future cooperation.
Within the framework of exhibition business events, Prof. Alexey Borovkov participated in the "State-Funding of New Industrial Technologies Development" discussion, as well as in the meeting of the Council for Engineering and Industrial Design at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
Besides, Prof. Alexey Borovkov read lecture "Computer-Aided Engineering and Digital Production" within the project " Industries of the 21st Century. Top-Notch Engineers on Breakthrough Technology Projects and the Future" implemented by the Russian Technology Agency, Agency for Strategic Initiatives, RVC, and Open University Skolkovo.
Packed audience was present at Prof. Alexey Borovkov's lecture that set a record in terms of the amount of questions, according to project's organisers.
